The Queensland Air Museum, located at Caloundra on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, is Australia's largest Heritage Air Museum. Established in 1974 and operated entirely by volunteers, boasts a display of more than 65 restored aircraft from many decades including an F-111 C A8-129 and many other aviation related displays. Their vision is 'Preserving Australia's Aviation Heritage'. They are open to the public every day (except Christmas Day) from 10am to 4pm and can open by arrangement outside those hours for special functions and events. They operate group tours, are an ideal venue for children's birthday parties and photo shoots, and they are keen to make their fantastic display as available to the public as possible. They operate three Aero Engine Run Days each year in January, April and September and host an Open Cockpit Weekend in July. They encourage the involvement of new members and volunteers. A pocket of the wallum heath which once covered much of coastal southern Queensland thrives on Lake Currimundi’s northern shore. This type of coastal heathland is rich in plant species, many of which attract birds and insects seeking food and shelter. Wander down the track from Coongarra Esplanade through the park to the beach. After the first 130 metres of wheelchair-accessible track, pause at the lake lookout. Spot the spectacular yellow-spiked flower or knobbly seed pods of the wallum banksia. Walk quietly, looking and listening for wrens, finches and honeyeaters such as the noisy friarbird....

Established in 1974, Chenrezig Institute is a centre for Buddhist study, meditation, retreat, and practice nestled in the foothills of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. Today, the Institute is home to a Tibetan Geshe (Lama), a large community of ordained Sangha (monks and nuns), students, residents, volunteers, retreatants, and guests. Apart from the formal study programmes, Chenrezig Institute is a peaceful, calm and relaxing place to spend a few hours, days or weeks. Stroll along the bush paths, wander in the formal garden, sip espresso in the café, have a vegetarian meal, drop in for a meditation class or teaching, or just sit and listen to life.
